Begin your week HERE!
“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now,
not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own
salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will
and to work for his good pleasure.”
This is such an encouraging passage of scripture because in
establishes expectations. Lets look at this a little more closely.
We are to “work out our salvation.” Does this
mean that we can work and earn our salvation? Not at all. Paul gives us a huge
clue in his preceding words. When he was around, people could ask him questions
and follow his lead. That wasn’t possible with him gone. They would have to
figure out how to practice their faith that was rooted in proper doctrine. This
process is called sanctification.
Secondly, we know that the work will often times
include “fear and trembling.” What is this referring to? We are to fear only
the Lord because he is good, just, honorable, loving, and Holy. This fear of
the Lord is a Holy Reverence that we are to have towards God and an awesome
respect. Our lives should be lived daily for the sole purpose of bringing glory
to Him. This should be our only concern and our only pursuit. We have to make
decisions and structure our lives in a God-honoring way.
Thirdly, “it’s not about us.” Because God is
Holy and we are to worship Him with every area of our lives (Romans 12:1,2), we
understand that it is not about our Glory but for the Glory of God. Here’s the
catch though, when God works in us and through us for His glory…it’s ALWAYS for
Be encouraged today! God knows you, He loves you, and He has
a great plan for your life today.
