Show up Fully Dressed! Part 4
Ephesians 6:16-17 "In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish al the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,..."
I love the phase "take up the shield of faith." I truly get that visual of a warrior protecting not only himself but those around him with his faith. As a dad, my faith in Christ and my everything not only protects myself, but it also protects my wife and children. The stronger my faith, the larger my shield of protection. The smaller my faith, the smaller my shield of protection. When you truly believe that in every situation, God can be trusted and God has a plan, it impacts everything around you.
Our faith can actually extinguish the flaming darts of the evil one. It's cool how the Bible doesn't just stop at darts but goes further in its description and add the adjective "flaming." The evil one wants to take us out, kill us (spiritually and physically) and burn us up so that there is no memory of our faithfulness to God. Paul uses the analogy of a lion prowling around waiting to "devour" its prey (us).
We are to also put on the helmet of salvation. Salvation is a work that Christ has performed as only he can. We need to daily remember in our minds that it is only because of Christ and it is only through Christ that we Know God. We have to not only protect that memory but we have to protect His word in our minds. This is the next piece of gear we are to have....the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God.
How do you know if you are being tempted? How do you know if something is a lie? Well, you have to first know the truth before you can know a lie. The problem that we face today is that most christians don't even take the time to know God's word and that is why many Christians don't know God's will for their life, what they are suppose to do in most situations, or how they are to live for Christ on a daily basis. When we don't know God's word, we are throwing away or leaving behind our only offensive tool.
Our you fully dressed so far today? Have you spent time in God's word? Well, I know that you have here, but meditate on this verse....and be encouraged!
