Walk Like An E-Christian?
I know...those aren't the right words to the song however it was catchy...and now I can't get the real song out of my mind. That song takes me back to the days of "Units" "Vans" "Keapa Shoes" "Lee Jeans" "Parachute Pants" "Shoulder Pads" and the like.
Psalms 1:1-2 is such a key passage of scripture for Christians. "Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night."
Life is definitely like a journey with ups and downs, twists, tests and turns. It's a long journey and we are need others to walk with us, regardless of the season. Who is walking with you? Have you given your life to Christ but are still straddleing that fence between your old life and your new life in Christ? Are you walking with your old friends who can seemingly bring you down or are you stepping out in faith and running with those who have the same faith and who can lift you up.
"But Pastor Clayton, are you saying that I should leave my friends behind...that's not being a very good friend." Well...if I could be so bold...yes and no! We, in a very large degree, are like computers. What we put IN to our life is what we produce WITH our life. The more we walk with positive, Christ filled people the better we will be. But we don't have to totally leave our friends behind. We can still do things with them but our lives need to be focussed on honoring God. So the question you have to ask is, "can I glorify God while hanging out with _______?" It's not a question that I can answer for you but it's one that you have to answer.
As this verse says, the more time you spend with God and His word, the more God's spirit will lead you to make the right decisions. Draw near to Him today with all your heart, mind, and strength, and He will meet all of your needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus. Be encouraged!
