What is being taught?
This is a longer passage for today, but it is God's word and it is extremely important. Titus is a small book but it packs a huge punch, especially if your church is an Elder lead church. This book lists the characteristics that must be present in a man's life in order for him to meet the qualifications as Elder. If they don't meet these requirements, then they don't qualify- pretty simple. Titus also communicated how to address and deal with situations which can go on in the local church. That is what we are looking at today. Titus 1:10-16 "For there are may rebellious people, mere talkers, and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision group. They must be silenced, because they are ruining whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach- and that for the sake of dishonest gain. Even one of their own prophets has said, "Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons." This testimony is true. Therefore, rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the commands of those who reject the truth. To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good."
There is a growing population within the walls of the church who do not believe the absolute authority of scripture. They want to pick and choose their beliefs. We even have pathetic leaders in the church who are leading entire congregation to stay believing false doctrine because they are not strong enough to preach the truth of God's word. The Bible says that these people must be rebuked sharply. Why? For their own benefit
and for the protection of God's church
! If you say that you love but demonstrate it by being "tolerant" you are not loving, you don't care. As a friend of mine said who was raised an orthodox Jew and was always treated with respect by 'Christians,' "Those Christians showed me care but they were loving me straight to Hell!"
If you are a Christian, do you love God's word and His absolute Truth more than you love your reputations or being liked? If you don't, you need to dive into God's word and fall in love with it. You cannot love God if you don't love His word and if you think you can, please find it in scripture and email me here at encouragingsingles.org. Falling in love with God and surrendering to His will and His word is both glorying to Him and good for you.
