You Need Some Rest!
Matthew 11:28 "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
As I am writing this devotional, I am listening to seagulls outside my office window. It is a familiar sound that takes me immediately to the beach and the beach reminds me of rest. That's just my personal take as I know that there are many who greatly prefer the mountains and the desert over the beach. I am sure that the sight of mountains or other images remind many of those about rest.
Rest is something that we all need but statistically don't get enough. Did you know that you can get enough rest at night but still not have "rest" in your life? That is what Jesus is talking about here. Our finances can be in order, our bodies can be specimens of amazing healthy, our relationships can be going well, our career can be headed in the right direction yet our lives still don't have rest.
The great tension between me being the boss of my life and God being the boss of my life can only be resolved by surrendering to the very gospel of Jesus Christ. This isn't for a few, this invitation is extended to many. So How can I truly find rest?
1) Surrender your life to Christ (Romans 10:9-10)
2) Begin reading the book of John in the New Testament
3) Get involved in a church that has a pathway for you to grow through small groups (community and discipleship)
4) Plan time away to be alone with God. Gather your Bible (digital is fine but disable apps that are distractions), notebook, pen, worship music, and go to a location that will allow you to focus.
